Tyler and Charlee Worley were happy, healthy kids born to Jason and Brandi Worley. Tyler was in first-grade at Sugar Creek Elementary School. He was an athletic child and loved playing sports. He was a big fan of basketball, soccer, football and baseball.

Charlee was enrolled in preschool and loved attending story time at the library and dancing. She also loved sports just like her big brother, especially basketball.

Jason and Brandi Worley had been struggling in their marriage for a while. They had considered separating but ultimately decided to stay together for the sake of the children.

Eventually Jason discovered that Brandi was having an affair and that was the last straw. The day before the murders Jason filed for divorce against Brandi.

Brandi was unable to cope with the thought of her husband leaving her. After taking Charlee to dance practice in the evening, she returned home and told Jason she needed to go out to by pipe cleaners. Instead she went to the store and returned with a sharp combat knife.

She returned home were Jason and the children had gone to bed. Brandi went upstairs stabbed Charlee and Tyler in their necks, killing them. She then turned the knife on herself but couldn’t summon the strength to kill herself too.

Brandi then called 911 with her chilling admission. She calmly stated: “I just stabbed myself and killed my two children.”

Brandi then called her mother who rushed to the Worley’s house. It was only Brandi’s mother’s screams that alerted Jason, who was asleep downstairs, to the fact that something was seriously wrong. Brandi then calmly said to Jason: ‘Now you can’t take the kids from me.”

Police and paramedics rushed to the scene and found the lifeless bodies of the two children. The bodies were found in Charlee’s bedroom covered in blankets with the bloody combat knife laying nearby. Brandi was sitting calmly in the living room, bleeding from a stab wound on her neck.

Brandi told paramedics she wanted to die with her children. She was rushed to a local hospital and she eventually made a full recovery.

Community Reaction to the Murders of Charlee and Tyler Worley.

The community of Darlington rallied around Jason and his family after his wife Brandi Worley brutally murdered his children. A funeral was held at the Darlington Community Center and the community raised $50,000 on a GoFundMe page to help cover expenses. Tyler and Charlee Worley were interred at the Green-lawn Cemetery in Darlington.

Brandi Worley’s Sentencing

Brandi Worley was charged with two felony counts of murder and taken to Montgomery County Jail after she was released from hospital. Brandi initially pled not guilty to the murder charges, hoping to put down an insanity defense. She was ordered to undergo psychiatric evaluation and return for a competency hearing the following year.

Before the hearing, Brandi changed her mind and decided to plead guilty to the murders. At her sentencing she was given the opportunity to speak but refused to do so.

Brandi Worley has shown no remorse for the killing of her children. She has since been diagnosed with depression and remains in an emotionless state.

Judge Harry Siamas sentenced Brandi Worley to 120 years in prison. He remarked that everybody was trying to find an explanation for the children’s senseless murders, stating that it was extremely unnatural for a mother to kill her own child. “Sometimes, there is no explanation,” he said. “Darkness is in this world… And it penetrates minds and our hearts.”
