Look At Me: The Scary True Story Behind the Meme

You may have heard of “Look at Me” the scary story circling the web in various forms. You may not know that it is based on a true story that really happened to a teenager who posted his experience online.

A user named Thatredguy or Adrian posted his story called “look at me” to a scary true story competition on the Jezebel website. Adrian explained that when he was a teenager her had an extremely terrifying experience while he was home alone. His mom and stepdad had gone out to dinner for the evening but Adrian stayed home to work on a homework assignment that was due the next day.

He was sitting at his desk which faced a small window and had his back to the doorway to his room. He was wearing high quality noise cancelling headphones that he had gotten for his birthday and was heavily focused on his music and his work.

There was a thunderstorm happening at the time and Adrian would occasionally look out the window to watch the storm. He didn’t leave his desk for the whole evening until his parents came home.

When Adrian’s Mom returned home from dinner she screamed out “Adrian! What on earth happened in here!?” Adrian was confused and rushed downstairs to see what all the yelling was about. Due to his rush to get downstairs he didn’t notice anything unusual in the house.

“Was this you? Did you have friends over?” Adrian’s mom asked him angrily. Adrian explained that he had been upstairs studying all evening. Eventually Adrian and his Mom realized there was someone in the house who shouldn’t have been there. They followed the footprints and found that they entered in the back door but didn’t leave the house.

They suddenly hear a loud pounding sound moving through the house and they run out the front door and call the police. Adrian, his Mom and Stepdad decide to go into the garage and lock themselves inside while they wait for the police.

After what feels like hours the police show up and go through the house to see if they can find the intruder. After a while the police return to the garage and ask who the bedroom is at the end of the hall on the left. Adrian confirms that is his bedroom.

The police officers lead the family back through the house to Adrian’s door. It had been left open all night. There was a scrawling of text written on it in black sharpie that read:

My log

8:47 I see you

8:53 You forgot to lock the back door

8:59 You seem focused

9:24 Turn around

9:47 Look at me

10:15 Look at me

10:37 LOOK AT ME

10:49 LOOK AT ME

The intruder was never found and Adrian never experienced anything like it again. Good luck sleeping tonight!
