What is Pumapunku?
Pumapunku is an archaeological site in Bolivia, located near the southern border of Lake Titicaca, in the La Paz Department, Ingavi Province, Tiwanaku Municipality, near the town of Tiwanaku. It is believed to have been built by the Tiwanaku people, a pre-Columbian civilization.
The site includes a large stone terrace, a temple, and a number of stone structures and sculptures. The most famous feature of Pumapunku is a large stone platform that is adorned with intricate carvings and is believed to have been used for religious ceremonies.
The precision and skill of the stonework at Pumapunku is considered to be some of the most impressive of ancient American civilizations, and is still a mystery how they were able to cut and move such massive stone blocks with the technology they had.
Who were the Tiwanaku People?
The Tiwanaku people were a pre-Columbian civilization that flourished in the southern Andes region of South America, in present-day Bolivia, from around 400 AD to 1100 AD.
They are believed to have been the founders of one of the most important ancient Andean civilizations, and their culture had a significant influence on later civilizations such as the Inca.
The Tiwanaku people are known for their advanced architectural, agricultural, and engineering skills. They built large stone structures and pyramids, including the famous Pumapunku complex, which still stands today and is considered a marvel of ancient engineering.

The door jambs: The door jambs found at Pumapunku are made of a single piece of stone and are intricately carved with images of gods and other religious symbols. They are notable for their exacting measurements and the skill required to shape and carve them.
The stone lintels: The lintels, which are the horizontal beams that span the top of doorways, are also made of a single piece of stone and are carved with detailed designs. They are notable for their size and weight, with some weighing up to 20 tons.
The multi-angled stone blocks: Some of the structures at Pumapunku feature stone blocks that have been cut at multiple angles, creating a complex interlocking system that is thought to have helped distribute the weight of the structures and made them more stable.
The polygonal stone blocks: These blocks have been cut into irregular shapes with many angles and have been placed in a way that they fit with each other perfectly without the use of mortar.

How Did the Tiwanaku People Build Pumapunku?

The precision and skill required to construct these features, as well as the fact that they were built without the use of wheels or beasts of burden, has led many to believe that they were built by an advanced ancient civilization.
Proponents of this theory argue that the advanced construction techniques and precision used in sites like Pumapunku are too sophisticated for ancient human civilizations to have achieved without the help of advanced technology or engineering knowledge from an extraterrestrial source. They also point to similarities between ancient architectural sites and descriptions of flying vehicles or other advanced technology found in ancient texts and legends.
This theory is not supported by mainstream archaeology and history which believe that the advanced construction techniques used at Pumapunku were likely developed through centuries of experimentation and innovation by ancient engineers and builders.
