Déjà rêvé refers to the experience of having a feeling of déjà vu, but in relation to a dream rather than a real-life event. In other words, it's the sense that you have previously dreamt about a current experience you are having.
What is déjà rêvé?
Have you seen this before in your dreams? It might be deja reve.
It's a common occurrence to feel a creepy sense of familiarity with a situation or experience, even when there's no logical explanation for it. This is known as déjà vu, and it's a phenomenon where it feels like you're reliving a moment from the past.
There's another form of déjà vu, called déjà rêvé, that's just as strange. It's the sensation that you've already experienced something before, but in a dream.

GodwinW recounted: “ I dreamt of my now-wife when she entered my university room.
I told my best friend about it, we were like, 15 or so. I specifically said: weird, it was my room in the dream, but it was nothing like my room (meaning my room back then with my parents).
When she stepped in that exact same way into the room 4-5 years later I recalled the dream, asked my best friend and he could still remember me telling him that dream.”
Emma had a dream when she was in high school that she was standing in the doorway of a classroom with a yellow door. Several years later, she visited a college campus and walked past a classroom with the exact same yellow door. She felt like she had already been in that room before and had a sense of déjà rêvé.
John had a dream that he was at a concert at a particular venue with a distinct stage design. A year later, he went to a concert at that same venue, and as he walked into the space, he felt like he had already been there and experienced the same performance before.
Sarah dreamed that she was in a coffee shop talking to a person she had never met before. Several months later, she met someone new and found herself having the same conversation in the exact same coffee shop, feeling like she had already had the conversation before.
Michael experiences déjà rêvé frequently while walking his dog in a nearby park. He has dreams about walking in the same park with his dog and then feels like he's reliving the dream during his daily walks.
What could cause déjà rêvé?
The feeling of déjà rêvé feeling can be a little unsettling, as it may seem like you are reliving a dream, or that your present experience has already occurred in your dreams.
Some people believe that these experiences may be related to precognitive dreams or other paranormal phenomena, while others attribute them to psychological or neurological factors, such as memory recall or cognitive processing errors.
The scientific community generally considers déjà rêvé to be a normal and relatively common phenomenon, with no clear explanation for why it occurs.
Scientists believe déjà vu may happen when two different parts of your memory and processing brain get activated at the same time. But déjà rêvé is even more mysterious. Dreams are based on your real experiences, so why do you feel like you've already done something you dreamt about?
In 2018, a French study shed some new light on déjà rêvé. They studied people with epilepsy who received electrical brain stimulation therapy to control their seizures.
Turns out, people with epilepsy are more prone to déjà vu, especially if they have seizures in the frontal lobes of their brains. After treatment, several people started experiencing déjà rêvé. They felt like their current situation was weirdly similar to a dream they had, and some could even pinpoint the exact dream and when they had it.
The scientists found that while déjà vu is an almost indefinable feeling, people who experience déjà rêvé can often link it to specific memories of dreams. But, the researchers weren't totally sure if these were real dreams, or if the people in the study just imagined that they had dreamt them before.
The researchers think that déjà vu could be a mix-up, like a fuzzy version of a memory we actually have, or something else entirely. Déjà rêvé might happen because of a similar issue in the way we remember - or think we remember - dreams from the past.
Some paranormal or supernatural beliefs propose that déjà rêvé could be caused by experiences or events from past lives or alternate realities, which somehow bleed through into our current reality.
For example, in some belief systems, reincarnation is thought to be the process of a soul being reborn into a new body after death. It is believed that the soul carries memories and experiences from past lives, which could potentially manifest as déjà rêvé experiences in the current lifetime.
Another belief is that there are multiple parallel universes, and that déjà rêvé could be a glitch or overlap between these universes. In this theory, a person may have actually experienced the event in a different universe, but it feels like a dream in this one.
