Waking Dreams

When you’re falling asleep at night or just waking up in the morning do you ever hear voices? Some people report hearing a kind of static or distant voices like a radio tuning in and out.

Others report voices as clear as day as if they were reading aloud from the newspaper. Sometimes people report seeing people or objects in their rooms that slowly fade away as they wake up. Is is possible these experiences are a connection with the spirit realm or other paranormal phenomenon?

Hallucinations that happen as we’re falling asleep are called Hypnagogic hallucinations. Generally, these hallucinations are simple and short lived. People commonly report seeing things such as faces of people, animals or geometric shapes.

They might see the face of someone they know or someone famous. Many hypnagogic hallucinations involve hearing sounds such as voices, noises or music. In some cases, a person experiencing a hypnagogic hallucination feels like they’re falling and can be jolted awake.

One reddit user reports being able to hold conversations with the hallucinations as she falls asleep.
”I know I’m starting to fall asleep when I start hearing the voices. The usually just say random disjointed sentences like ‘I was in the driveway when it happened’. More often than not they seem to be related to death. I hear things like ‘He died on a tuesday’ or ‘Cancer killed me’.

Sometimes I am able to ask the voices questions and they respond in ways that seem to make sense but they never seem to impart much useful information before I wake up too much to be able hear them. Sometimes the voices are friends and family members who are still alive and other times they are voices I don’t recognize.”

Some theorise that these voices and faces that we see and hear when falling asleep are being relayed to us from the Akashic record. It is possible that when we are in the vulnerable state between sleeping and waking we are closer to the spirit world and are able to receive information we couldn’t otherwise know.

Perhaps spirits are trying to communicate with us when we are in this state or maybe we are simply eavesdropping on conversations from the other side. In a similar vein some people believe our dreams are a connection with the spirit realm. Many people online report visiting with deceased loved ones or seeing glimpses of the future through their dreams.

It is impossible to know for sure if these experiences are rea or not all we can do is try our best to remember the things that we see and hear and test for ourselves whether they see to have any greater meaning beyond our own brain.
